MSPC
        MIAMI SHORES PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

We are proud to announce that our Team is ready to take off to continue our work for MSPC's Mission in Haiti. The destination is La Pointe, Port-de-Paix. The goal is to improve the sanitary conditions at the House of Hope, which is an orphanage that serves the physically and mentally disabled, mal-nourished, and abandoned children of all ages.

At the end of the Sunday worship, the Haiti Mission Team received a "Send Off Dedication." Our Team members are: (left to right) Brion Bell, Helene Apollon-Noel,  Renel Noel, Regina Blunker, and Kathleen Monahan (picture not shown).

The team arrived safely in Haiti. They are working vigorously to achieve their mission. Currently, they are unable to upload photos because there's no electricity or Internet connection.  However, the team is taking tons of pictures and will upload them as soon as possible.

The team has power and Internet access! Today, Tuesday, July 24th, 2012, Renel gave the team members a full, guided tour of the hospital facilities that shares the area with the House of Hope. Pictures and perhaps some video will follow of some 'inside' looks at the current project's stages as well as some photos of the (precious) residents of House of Hope.

On Saturday, the 21st, the team first met the staff and the children who are the residents of the House of Hope. Emotions ran quite high, and especially for those team members who've never been on such a mission, (Brion and Kathleen!!!). In fact, as we were leaving, Kathy and Brion had become inextricable from the tiny children in their arms!

"You can really feel the deep need here, but so remarkable is the trust that these children have for us,  newcomers who look and talk so differently," says Brion.

New Blogs, Pictures, and perhaps some video will appear here as we can get it ready...

Please stay tuned!!!!

Here are some pictures...

[Added Saturday, July 28th...
...unfortunately, we lost Internet connectivity after the first post, so we've had to "Post-Date" our post!  :) The team returned safely on Friday, just after noon...]

On the last full day of our mission, (Thursday), we were able to revisit the ‘House of Hope’ center and bid a slow  (and painful) farewell to the children and staff there.  Also, the work on the project progressed to the point where all that needed to be added were the tiles and some of the finishing fixtures.

For those who don’t know exactly what the mission project was about:

We were there to create new sanitary facilities in some locations and to repair them in others; adding lavatories, toilets, and shower facilities in the downstairs area, and to replace/repair some in the upstairs dormitories.

Tile is Nice!

Getting it just right!
New Toilet!

Ooooh!  That's going to feel nice on the
tootsies!

Tiling is getting finished...
Shower Heads for all...

It looks like they got it just right!

Please stay tuned to this blog site as we will be providing information on how to help and perhaps how to become involved.  This is such a special container for good hearts, this 'House of Hope!'  At the last gathering of the team, there were many testimonies of the ways in which this trip has changed our lives, but the one thing that we all agreed:  The way that we were able to interact with the children and the community at large, enabled us to feel as though our lives have become inextricably intertwined with those that we were able to touch, and of course those that touched our lives.  The Holy Spirit was palpably present as we went through our days and evenings in that little village.  As we were leaving on Wednesday, a mission group from England arrived.  One from that mission asked, "Is this your first time?"  Some of us nodded, 'yes;' and with a twinkle in his eye he said, "I know it won't be your last!"

So true...

God bless all of you who supported us and prayed for us and for those of the House of Hope.  We were there to see that these prayers were answered with the very best of God's grace!
